METROPOOL EAST & WEST | ALMERE
Like gatekeepers, two luxury flat blocks flank the entrance to Almere Centrum’s characteristic train station. Where former Stationoffices housed business tenants for years, Metropool now defines the streetscape. For this make over designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects, the old office buildings were sustainably redeveloped. Two new floors were also placed on both buildings. A transformation that resulted in 9000 m² of floor space divided over 67 spacious flats in Almere.
There are commercial spaces in the plinth of the buildings, ideally located next to the station in terms of passer-by flow. A number are located on a wide and high new passage connecting Station Square with Bus Square parallel to Railway Path.
The commercial spaces located on Station Square also received an upgrade, with the realisation of new facades and canopies for all shops and catering outlets.
