Kroonenberg Groep has leased a property at Van Leijenberglaan 320 to Gijsbrecht, a restaurant in Amsterdam. The new restaurant will open early in April at this unique location on the water and surrounded by the green landscape of the urban park known as Gijsbrecht van Aemstelpark. This location was previously occupied by Halvemaan, the legendary restaurant owned by chef John Halvemaan who passed away in February.

John Halvemaan’s motto was ‘keep it simple’, and Gijsbrecht will carry on this tradition. Chef Hessel Blok, formerly chef at Brut de Mer, is creative and doesn’t limit himself to a single culinary style. He prefers to work with locally produced, seasonal products, and vegetables are not subordinate to fish or meat in his dishes. Balance and simplicity are also key to his creations. Excellent quality, but not at the prices typical of a Michelin star restaurant.

The owners of Gijsbrecht - Marius Haverkamp, Roger Peetoom and Edwin de Koeyer - are names already associated with other successful restaurants: Morgan & Mees, Kip van ‘t Spit, Brut de Mer, de Wasserette and De Republiek. Co-owner Robbert Flipse has turned his love of wine into an occupation. After two years as the wine steward for the Caron family and having completed two sommelier courses, he will take on the position of host and sommelier at Gijsbrecht. Co-owner Esther van Oostenbrugge has acquired management experience at various hospitality venues. Her most recent achievement was working at the SOHO house, where she especially dealt with the operational aspects at Cecconi's.

At a grand location with a unique history and run by a team with experience and a passion for their profession, Restaurant Gijsbrecht is a new culinary asset for Amsterdam.
