Redevelopment of de Barones started
Kroonenberg Groep will be starting the redevelopment of de Barones, a shopping centre in Breda. Radical changes in the retail market make it necessary to update the shopping centre to keep it attractive for the decades to come. Plans have been developed with 3W New Development, Rijnboutt and KroesePaternotte to enlarge the retail units on the first floor to include space on the ground floor in order to create larger units. The first floor will be accessible from the ground floor of each retail unit. This will also mean the elimination of the escalators from the arcade to make room for a central plaza providing contemporary catering establishments.
The shopping experience will also be optimised by providing the shop image with more transparency. High shop fronts and an extensive use of glass will create an open shopping street. The existing entrances will also be renovated to make them look more inviting. All lessees such as H&M, V&D, Etos, Hugo Boss, Hout Brox, The Body Shop and Intertoys are being involved in the plans. The total floor space of the shopping centre (approx. 28,000 m²) will remain practically the same. All shops in the shopping centre will simply remain open during the renovation period which is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
