Renovated Berghaus Plaza a haven for fashion
Ladies wear/Menswear no. 4 - September 2003
Multi-functional building at a central spot
The Koningin Wilhelminaplein in Amsterdam is the center of the largest concentration of fashion companies in the Netherlands. Commercial buyers are keen to visit, as all the important segments of the fashion industry are well represented. The location is close to the Amsterdam ring road, and public transport facilities are within walking distance. The well-known Berghaus Plaza is a prominent part of this heart of the Dutch fashion industry. The striking building has a modern and energetic look. The roof is covered with large satellite dishes used by cable and Internet company UPC, which occupies a separate part of the building. Alongside these communications operations, fashion plays a leading role. The lessor, Kroonenberg Groep, has done all it can to make the building useful for both segments. The fashion section has its own entrance with a service-oriented reception.
Dozens of fashion labels are currently presented in Berghaus Plaza. The showroom spaces where all this can be seen vary in size from around 75 to hundreds of square meters. Ladies’ and men’s fashion, sportswear, casual, all these are represented.
The message from Messrs. Hendriks and Van der Ham of Kroonenberg Groep is clear: ‘Berghaus Plaza is just a fantastic place for trading in fashion, either for a showroom or for offices. But there is still plenty of space that is vacant. That’s why we are very much involved with prospective tenants, who will get an excellent service package.’ A tour of the building reveals much. The architecture is peaceful with timeless colors. Prestige is the key word. Van der Ham: ‘Obviously, we are always open to all kinds of new ideas, because it is in our interest to have satisfied tenants and to retain them.’
Berghaus Plaza is an ‘open’ building with a lot of glass. ‘Double glazing, windows that open and also sun blinds’ will be added. There are lifts for both people and goods, and the loading and unloading facilities are ideal. The ventilation system works perfectly and air-conditioning is also available. The spacious entrance includes the porters’ lodge and a room for the caretaker. Hendriks: ‘Tenants and visitors are offered every possible service. From this hall, the ample parking area directly next to the building is also monitored.’
